Arrondissements of the Moselle department 

The nine arrondissements of the Moselle department are:

  1. Arrondissement of Boulay-Moselle, (subprefecture: Boulay-Moselle) with 3 cantons and 96 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 74,756 in 1990, and was 74,628 in 1999, a decrease of 0.17%.
  2. Arrondissement of Château-Salins, (subprefecture: Château-Salins) with 5 cantons and 128 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 28,315 in 1990, and was 28,480 in 1999, an increase of 0.58%.
  3. Arrondissement of Forbach, (subprefecture: Forbach) with 7 cantons and 73 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 180,973 in 1990, and was 176,036 in 1999, a decrease of 2.73%.
  4. Arrondissement of Metz-Campagne, (prefecture of the Moselle department: Metz) with 9 cantons and 142 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 202,545 in 1990, and was 211,863 in 1999, an increase of 4.6%.
  5. Arrondissement of Sarrebourg, (subprefecture: Sarrebourg) with 5 cantons and 102 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 60,817 in 1990, and was 62,098 in 1999, an increase of 2.11%.
  6. Arrondissement of Sarreguemines, (subprefecture: Sarreguemines) with 6 cantons and 83 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 97,442 in 1990, and was 99,980 in 1999, an increase of 2.6%.
  7. Arrondissement of Thionville-Est, (subprefecture: Thionville) with 6 cantons and 75 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 123,152 in 1990, and was 127,541 in 1999, an increase of 3.56%.
  8. Arrondissement of Thionville-Ouest, (subprefecture: Thionville) with 6 cantons and 30 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 123,708 in 1990, and was 119,045 in 1999, a decrease of 3.77%.
  9. Arrondissement of Metz-Ville, (prefecture of the Moselle département: Metz) with 4 cantons and one commune. The population of the arrondissement was 119,594 in 1990, and was 123,776 in 1999, an increase of 3.5%.
