Coffee Shop (Red Hot Chili Peppers song)
|
For a place where coffee is sold and consumed, see coffeehouse.
"Coffee Shop" is a song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers from their 1995 album, One Hot Minute. It is the fifth track on the album and was released as its fourth single with a promotional music video in 1996.
Like many of the songs on One Hot Minute, "Coffee Shop"'s lyrics are cryptic and often bizarre, but it is probably about the Coffee Shops in Amsterdam where Marijuana is sold somewhat legally. The track is also notable for appearing on the album between two much more subdued and softer songs, "My Friends" (an acoustic ballad) and "Pea", which features only Flea playing an acoustic bass and singing on his own. This creates a significant, unpredictable contrast, especially when considering how the extreme loudness of the song abrubtly kicks in and halts with very little warning.
