Conor A. Gearty is the Rausling Professor of Human Rights Law[1] and Director of the Centre for the Study of Human Rights[2] at the London School of Economics. He was educated at the private school, Castleknock College before going to University College Dublin as an undergraduate and Cambridge University as a post-graduate. He worked at King's College London from 1991 to 2003 before joining the LSE. Gearty is also a practising barrister with Matrix Chambers.[3]
Though originally pursuing his doctorate in environmental law Gearty's work has moved from the law of tort to a focus on civil liberties and human rights. He is widely published and recognised as one of the chief contributors to the debate about human rights in the United Kingdom.
