Romford (UK Parliament constituency)
|
Romford is a parliamentary constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election.
Boundaries
The constituency covers Romford, Gidea Park and Collier Row in the London Borough of Havering, East London. Although the constituency includes the middle class Romford Garden Suburb area, large housing estates also form part of the constituency and the electorate are mostly working class Conservatives.
Boundary review
Following their review of parliamentary representation in North London the Boundary Commission for England has made modifications and alterations to all existing constituencies. The electoral wards used to create the Romford constituency to be fought at the Next United Kingdom general election are:
- Brooklands, Havering Park, Hylands, Mawneys, Pettits, Romford Town, and Squirrel’s Heath.
History
Although Romford has been highly marginal through much of the 20th century, its boundaries have changed, and it has largely been a Conservative seat in recent years; although taken by Labour in the 1997 landslide, it was one of the few Tory gains in 2001.
