Vincent Square is a large grass-covered square in Westminster, London, England, covering 13 acres (making it the largest privately owned square in Londoncitation needed). It provides playing fields for Westminster School.
It was created by Dean Vincent of Westminster School, a few hundred yards away, who, on seeing that development was beginning to encroach on the wastelands of Tothill Fields (which was a former plague pit), paid for a bank and ditch to enclose a suitable playing area for the schoolboyscitation needed.
After the Second World War, the School resisted the efforts of the local authority to make the Square available for public usecitation needed.
There is a cricket pavilion on the Square [1].
There are also two properties on the square, one of which is the home of the Groundsman.
The names of the football pitches, working clockwise are, Pavilion, Battlefield, Bonfire and Park.
It used every weekday by Westminster Under School during breaks. Although it is Private property many members of the public do not see the sign and walk into the square, especially when the gate is left open during breaks.
